ABC Wednesday: J is for...

Juicer

is that not the lamest thing? I really ought not to take part in these projects if this is the best I can come up with - two days late, besides.  I had even thought of doing a second pic of 'Jewels', but I was too lazy to take any of my jewelery out and style it for a shoot.  between my new job and my Master's program, I'm pretty wiped out - and 'back to school' was no picnic, but we're settling in, now.  I have about five drafts of posts half-written because I keep having all these great ideas, and no time to actualize them, so I need to keep tagging the pages to come back to later.  it's the good kind of busy...though I can't help but notice that all the snapshots I've taken lately are of objects in and around my house.  need to get out much?  never mind all that, let's talk about my juicer!

see how clean it is?  that's because I hardly ever use it.  after I got all excited about the idea of juicing, I ran out and bought one, and started right in with it.  it was great, juicing is awesome, and I loved all the healthy drinks and how great they made me feel, but I was throwing away a lot of pulp for not much juice, and that got very expensive, very quickly.  I have since learned that there are ways to prepare the leftover pulp, so as not to lose all that good nutrition to waste, so I'll get to trying it again when I have a specific recipe I'd like to work out.  which brings me to my point - Rainbow Chard!!!  a friend of mine gave me the most gorgeous pile of chard the other day, and I need to use it, quick, before I murder it in the fridge from neglect as is so wont to happen to innocent young veggies in my care.  so I looked up some recipes, and here's what I thought I might try:  chard/cabbage salad, and an apple/carrot/ginger/chard juice recipe I found on the same website.  do you juice?  do you like rainbow chard?  what are your favorite ways to prepare it?

  1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Jack-O-Lanterns. We do have a juicer and used it for quite awhile and then just stopped. Good luck with the chard--I know how things get in the way of blogging.

  2. I've just been reading some of your posts....you do have a lot going on in your life! I've never juiced, not that I'm opposed to it, sounds like a good and healthy thing to do. My mom used to cook chard for us back in the day...gosh, was that really 40 years ago?? I stick to broccoli and spinach for the dark green veggies. I love veggies, I'm just too lazy to do much with them these days.

Anyway, I want to say thank you for commenting on my Jerusalem blog. I love that your father used to sing those songs to you...glad it sparked some good memories for you.

    1. it kind of made my night to hear that song, and the one Dina posted. I don't think I have any more going on than most people, I just tend to be more vocal about it! broccoli and spinach are two of my favorites, as well : )

  3. I love the end product, but hate the huge mess it makes and the amount of produce required. I'm not sure it's cost effective to do your own!

    1. when I was considering buying the juicer, a friend of mine told me she got way more mileage out of her food processor because it could do more things - the juicer just juices. maybe I should have gone with the food processor, lol!

  5. Shalom! Your comment at Sara's blog was very moving.
In fact this whole Shabbat is very moving as the radio stations give a day of tribute to Haim Hefer z"l. e.g. http://glz.co.il/

The juicer and busy life story sounds familiar. I went through the same.
Chard I can't help you with. Good luck.

    1. wow, that does sound pretty special, Dina. my dad loved singing all the songs from his early days on the kibbutz, and I love to hear them. he was laid to rest in Beit Keshet, up by Mount Tabor.

  6. So shiny! My wife rarely drinks coffee, and I never do, but on our wedding registry, we requested a coffee maker so we could have fresh coffee when guests came. Well, we occasionally had guests, but not often enough, or they drink coffee either, or they weren't there long enough.

Long answer to the fact that we NEVER used it, and regifted it, or gave it away.

    1. haha! I don't drink coffee either, and my mom bought herself a little coffee-maker to have at my house for when she visits. for the most part, I forget I have it, but every now and then I remember, and offer someone a cup, and they get genuinely confused - wondering aloud, "why do YOU have a coffee-maker?" "for you!" I tell them ♥

    1. I hear you - I generally try to avoid that scenario, but the juicer is still relatively new, as I only just bought it last year. who knows, maybe I'll figure out how to make more use of it in the future! thanks for visiting me, too ♥
